Luxor

Luxor is located more than 600 KM south of Cairo. It’s one of the world’s biggest open air museum and one of Egypt’s 7 World Heritage sites.
Once capital of Egypt’s golden era “The New Kingdom”, today it’s a charming place to visit mixing both history and authentic life.

Many of the classical tour programs do Luxor along with Aswan on a Nile cruise.
However, we think the best way to experience Luxor is in a hotel not a cruise.
We suggest to stay in a hotel in Luxor then move by car to Aswan.
Or stay in Luxor in a hotel then take Dahabeya from Esna to Aswan.
This is the recommended experience, if you prefer a slow paced authentic experience.

Where to stay in Luxor?

Luxor city is divided on the east & the west side of the Nile. More than 95% of the hotels are located on the East side of the Nile and that’s what’s usually chosen by tourists.

West side is quieter and offer different experiences.

If you are into big hotels with pools, short walking distance from restaurants, market and walk the city, then the East side is your choice.

If you prefer to enjoy an authentic experience, enjoy the silence and be far from the crowd, then west side is your choice.

However you will need to know that by staying on the West side, you will need to have a car to take you to the East (around 45 minutes) and to go anywhere you will need a car arranged in advance.
Stay in the west, if you are looking for relaxation and authentic experience (non-touristy).
If you prefer to go out and walk or easily find a taxi then the east is recommended for you.
