Discover Cairo’s Southern Cemetery – A Guided Tour Through History & Spiritual Heritage
Step off the beaten path and immerse yourself in one of Cairo’s most fascinating yet rarely visited areas — the Southern Cemetery, part of Historic Cairo (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). This guided tour blends history, spirituality, and culture as we follow in the footsteps of great Muslim scholars and saints.
Explore impressive mausoleums, atmospheric streets, and hidden gems that most visitors to Egypt never see. Enjoy remarkable sites that bring Cairo’s spiritual and historical legacy to life. While walking along the historic Khalifa Street, most monuments will be admired from the outside as many remain closed to the public.
Tour Duration: ~6 hours
Total Walking distance: 1 KM approx.

Tour program
During the day, we will enter three key sites from inside: the Imam Shafie Mausoleum, the tomb of Imam Al-Layth ibn Saad, and the Mosque of Uqba ibn Amir.
A walk in Khalifa Street, most monuments will be admired from the outside as many remain closed to the public.
To save your energy while still experiencing the atmosphere up close, the tour combines short bus rides with leisurely guided walks. We’ll also pause for a coffee break in a local café and later end the day at the beautiful Al Azhar Park, where you can enjoy a late lunch or early dinner while watching the sun set over the skyline of Historic Cairo.

Proper planning, attention to details and room for improvisation is what sets “Walk Like An Egyptian” apart from the rest. This has been the second tour for my partner and myself with the friendly Walk Like An Egyptian team.
In addition to his vast knowledge of the visit site, our guide Assem knows when to pause for people to reflect, ask questions or snap photos.
I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and look forward to the next one.
Many thanks Asma & Assem for another enjoyable tour 🙂

I have done a few outings with Walk Like an Egyptian in Cairo.. I’m already signed up for the next outing! These trips are an incredible way to learn about Cairo and Egypt’s history, and they make the city feel more manageable — not an easy task. The small group setting and repeat attendees makes it feel more like a group of friends than a tour group, and the mix of foreigners and local Cairenes is fantastic.
