I did today the Downtown Cairo and the Jewish synagogue tour. We started off the tour very early so it was just the right weather and less crowded streets. We walked through the 20th century Cairo looking at buildings with amazing architecture from different times. It felt like going back in time with the great guide stories and info. Then we went into the synagogue, it was my first time in such an amazing place. I felt like I am back in the forties of the last century. It’s really a must try!

I arranged for a tour for me and a group of graduate exchange students through Downtown Cairo with Asmaa from Walk Like an Egyptian. What a good choice that was! Asmaa is a very enjoyable guide who’s extremely well-versed in the city’s rich heritage and history. Also: fluent in English. While Downtown Cairo may seem bland and uninteresting compared to the pyramids or the many Medieval mosques of Islamic Cairo, she made it come alive by invoking its rich, belle-epoque past. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to use Walk Like an Egyptian for visits to other parts of the city. 5 stars!
