Naguib Mahfouz is one of the most prominent writers in the Arab World.
Born in 1911 in Cairo, he was the first Arab writer to receive a Nobel prize in Literature in 1988. Of his many works, the most famous is the Cairo Trilogy, consisting of Bayn Al Qasryin/ Palace Walk (1956), Qasr el Shouq/ Palace of Desire (1957), and Al Soqariya/ Sugar Street (1957), which focuses on a Cairo family through three generations, from 1917 until 1952. The name of these novels were named after actual street names in Historic Cairo.
Naguib Mahfouz left our world on the 30th of August 2006.
On this tour, we try to walk the streets that inspired Naguib Mahfouz, learn about the history of this part of Cairo that inspired the great novelist Naguib Mahfouz. It is in that part of Cairo where Mahfouz was born and lived the first few years of his life.. and even though he moved later to live elsewhere in Cairo, it is here where he always returned to walk and be inspired.
That part of the city is part of Historic Cairo which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

I usually don’t write reviews but definitely
Walk like an Egyptian deserves this one…
I had an amazing experience and time in yesterday’s tour (the city of the dead) I absolutely love it.
Our tour guide is a friendly person, good communicator, Excellent English, very knowledgeable about almost everything. I usually have a self walk there and thought I knew quit a bit about it, but this one was totally different… they took us to places I’d never visited, telling us history I’d never known…
“Walk like an Egyptian” is recommended if you want to know the amazing stories behind the streets you walk in every day.
